First aid training is vital to stay up-to-date with new developments in healthcare.

In cases of emergency, first aid can be the difference between life and death. First aid is mostly knowledge – how to prevent injuries, how to treat the injured, how to prevent spread of an infection. Effective treatment relies on knowing how to quickly adapt to new conditions and respond to symptoms.  It’s not magic – it takes practice and knowledge to get good at it.

Effective first aid requires knowledge and training on how to treat wounds, prevent infections, and give relief from pain like bleeding or shock with proper medication. As a result, knowing how to get help for yourself or others during a time of need is important.

When Should You Seek Medical Care?

When you get a cut or bruise, or experience severe pain, swelling, or redness, it’s a good idea to visit a doctor.

In many cases, your symptoms can be relieved by treating them with basic first aid. For example, you can calm a cough or soothe a sore throat by drinking hot liquids.

However, if symptoms get worse, or if they last longer than a few days, see a doctor.

Get emergency medical care right away if you’re bleeding profusely, have lost consciousness, or feel faint.

A cut or scrape can cause infection if it isn’t treated right away.

If you get a cut, clean it well with soap and water, then apply an antiseptic such as iodine, hydrogen peroxide, or bacitracin antibiotic ointment.

If you’re bleeding from your mouth or nose, apply pressure with gauze or a bandage.

If your wound is deep or bleeding heavily, see a doctor.
